Literacy navigators Program FAQ's

Who Qualifies for This Program?

Any student in grades 4th-6th who struggle with reading at grade level and excel in visual-spatial/hands on tasks.  Students should be at least a year behind in their reading skills for their grade.  They should be reading at a level no lower than 2nd grade to qualify.  Your student does NOT need to have a formal diagnosis.

Expert Instructors

Our instructors are experienced educators who are passionate about teaching reading skills to struggling readers. They bring their expertise as reading specialists in Orton-Gillingham principles and certifications in Wilson and Barton programs with them.  Their love for students and enthusiasm are brought to every lesson, helping our students achieve their full potential.

Affordable Pricing

We believe that high-quality education should be accessible to everyone. Just because your student requires extra support, should not be a reason to charge you a college level fee to help them!  That's why we offer competitive pricing and flexible payment options to help you achieve your educational goals.  We also take ESA+ grants for those who are qualified and have received the grant.

What we do?

We provide an Orton-Gillingham based program using a Wilson language curriculum called Just Words or a modified language arts curriculum, depending on your students reading level.  Your student will be assessed and placed into whichever group will accommodate their needs best.  We will initially have two levels launch for 2026.  The first group will be focused on the Just Words program and the other group will use a modified language arts curriculum to further their reading mastery in a systematic and structured way that they can be successful.  Weekly reading lessons and beautiful literature are a large part of this program, enabling students to excel and become fluent readers.

S.T.E.A.M. aspects

Literacy Navigators has partnered with S.M.I.L.E. Camps in Raleigh NC.  They specialize in science, technology, engineering, art, and math project based instruction.  Students will have the amazing opportunity to work on their language arts with our reading experts and then spend the rest of their day working with S.M.I.L.E. Camp staff on various hands on math and project based work together.

Differentiated Instruction

We're committed to your student's success. That's why we offer differentiated instructional support and guidance throughout your student's educational journey. We will meet your student where they are at and help them to achieve the most they can in our hands on and specialized instruction.

What else is included?

Your student will have a virtue based lesson to start their day each morning.  Then they will learn math, writing, grammar, and literature each week, in addition to their reading specific program work.  They will spend 3 hours per day working on these academic skills. The remaining part of their days will be spent in hands-on math and project work through our partnership with S.M.I.L.E. Camp staff.

What are the other costs involved?

There is a small number of books/workbooks that will be required.  Writing, Grammar, Math, and Literature purchases in addition to the Wilson Language System (Just Words) if students are at that level.

Do you take Opportunity Scholarships or ESA+ Grants?

We are a hybrid homeschool program designed to provide educational services support to homeschool families.  Therefore, we are not a registered school and do NOT take the opportunity scholarship.  However, we DO take the ESA+ Grants for those who have an IEP and qualify for that grant.

What days and times does this program entail for students?

The program runs on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 8:45am - 3:30pm.  Student schedules will be specific to the track that they are on for reading.  However, approximately 3 hours will be spent daily in reading/language arts and the remaining day will be spent on math and project work.  Life skills, and virtue based instruction will all be a part of this program as well.
